Ask the question before you pick a name
Give the whole class a little time to think first. Students can jot down an idea or talk it through with a partner, then you can choose a name. That way, everyone has a chance to prepare before someone is asked to answer.
You can type names directly or use a saved list, and you can choose whether sound, animation, and removal after selection are turned on.
Controls and settings
Enter one name per line or choose a saved Names List. With Remove name after draw turned on, a selected student stays out of later picks until the list is reset. With it off, the same name can appear again. Sound and animation are separate settings, and the remaining-name count shows how far you have worked through the list.
Set it up in Sabura
- Open Random Pick and enter names or load a saved list.
- Choose your sound, animation, and removal settings.
- Ask the question, give students thinking time, then pick a name.
Find evidence in the text
Ask students to underline the sentence that best shows how a character feels. Give them a minute to think or compare with a partner, then pick a name and ask the student to read the evidence and explain the choice. Invite another student to offer a different example.
Teaching tip
Do not require an instant answer. Give a student a moment to think or look back at their notes before they respond.
